DOWN THE STRETCH

With three races remaining in the 1999 campaign, the point's championship has tightened up and it's literally a four-team race. Team RC is 95 points out of first place to Greg Biffle's 3292 series' leading total. Jack Sprague is second with 3282 marks and Dennis Setzer has 3251 points in third place. Compton is close behind with 3197 points in fourth place. "We're not out of the championship hunt," said Compton. "A win here at Louisville would give us momentum down the stretch." SHORT TRACK SUCCESS

Stacy Compton has collected seven top-five's on the short tracks this season in the NCTS. He won the Bud Pole Award at Mesa Marin Raceway (CA) and I-70 Speedway (KS) and has started on the outside pole twice on the short tracks. He took over the point's lead in April, following his second place finish at Martinsville (April 17). "We finished fourth at Louisville last year," remembered Compton. "We need to qualify up front and stay out front. There's going to be a lot of rubbing and banging in the back." SIX, FIVE, FOUR, THREE, TWO AND ONE

Team RC has a season-high six Bud Pole awards, a record for Dodge in the NCTS. Compton has set a track qualifying record at five speedways. The no. 86 RC Dodge is currently fourth in the NCTS point's championship. There are three races left in the '99 season with two of those races on the bigger race tracks (Texas and California). And the team has one goal: win races and we'll win the championship.
