Powers Motorsports traveled last weekend to Kentucky Speedway to attempt to compete in the Kroger 225. The team was optimistic about the weekend after finishing well in Kansas. The team was dealt a huge set back when the hauler was wrecked in route from the shop to Kentucky.
"I was awoke about 7:30 on Friday morning by the driver we had taking the truck to the race for us, he was across from the track in a parking lot and he said that supposedly the hauler had been cut off and the truck and all equipment had came loose. Upon arrival we found that the pit cart had came loose and destroyed all of the equipment downstairs. The truck had also been jarred loose and had rolled forward into the gas cart and had broken the nose and damaged both fenders. The truck also had rolled backwards and went through the rear roll up door". Driver Tom Powers said.
Upon further inspection by the team sufficient damage had also been done to the trailer's interior. In true Powers Motorsports team spirit the team decided to continue on into the track and try to repair the damaged truck. With little time the team had the truck ready for tech and ready to practice.
"We practiced a good bit and just could not get the truck to turn. We saddled up and tried to qualify but for the second week in a row a sour engine caused the #55 to not get up to speed. I hate it for the team we are out of provisional due to these engine programs and we really have to be ready from here on out".
The team has worked hard to prepare a second truck in which Tom Jr. will test and other drivers will attempt a few races in this year in preparation for next year. The team will unfortunately have to skip the Loudon event and repair the trailer and truck in time for the Michigan event.
