CARELLI RUNS SHORT, RUTTMAN GETS WIN

------------------------------------------------- Staff Report -------------------------------------------------

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (MSPS) - Rick Carelli's misfortune was Joe Ruttman's ticket to win in Sunday's Carquest Auto Parts 420K at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Carelli ran out of fuel while leading the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season-ending race with just over two laps to go.

Ruttman, trailing Carelli by over six seconds, inherited the lead and the win - his third in the last five races and fifth of the year. The final two were the only laps he led all race.

Jack Sprague finished 1.512-secons back in second place, but needed only to take the green flag from his pole position starting spot to clinch the season champoinship.

Ron Hornaday, Jr., finished third and Jay Sauter and Mike Bliss fourth and fifth.

Carelli wound up in sixth.

Sprague's championship is his first. He was followed in the point standings by Rich Bickle, Ruttman, Bliss and Hornaday.
