Tucson Arizona's Home Town Hero "THE KID" gets shot at racing in NASCAR
Tucson, Arizona's own Cody "THE KID" Cambensy gets closer to his life long dream of becoming a professional race car driver in the NASCAR ranks. "THE KID" is getting his shot with NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team Lafferty Motorsports. Cody was contacted by team owner Chris Lafferty and after a phone interview with Chris, a test date was set for "THE KID".
On March 1, Cody flew out the North Carolina where he would be tested at the famous and legendary Hickory Motor Speedway. Cody was going to be tested on numerous levels set by Lafferty Motorsports to see if he has what they are looking for. Maybe it was fate but the day Cody flew into North Carolina that region saw a record breaking snow storm that would surely put a halt to this opportunity and a damper on the spirits of most. Not for "THE KID", after 2 days of delay the test would resume.
After a very successful and grueling test it was clear that Cody posessed the drive to make it. Owner of Lafferty Motorsports Chris Lafferty said quote "Cody is a good kid who would be a great representative for any fortunate company." Chris later added that Cody will be back out to North Carolina for some pavement stock car racing at Hickory Motor Speedway to get more seat time on the pavement.
"I can't believe that I am getting closer to my dream. There are a lot of great drivers out there and I am very lucky to be getting this chance and opportunity with Lafferty Motorsports. I know there is still a lot of challenges a head but I know with the coaching and help of Lafferty Motorsports I can be successful with there team. I would just like to thank Chris Lafferty for this chance and opportunity and I would also like to thank the rest of the team at Lafferty Motorsports for all the hard work and knowledge they shared with me at the test." Cody's plans for 2009 with Lafferty Motorsports are to hit the marketing and business end of the program full force and to get back to North Carolina for more seat time!
