Kyle Busch aces truck race at Charlotte

Despite a stop-and-go penalty, Kyle Busch held nothing back in his Toyota Tundra to score the victory in the Charlotte Motor Speedway NCWTS 200.

In a hard-fought NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Kyle Busch soared through the field to win the North Carolina Education Lottery 200.

Although Busch is accustomed to winning, a stop-and-go-penalty for an errant gas can dropped him back in the field. Undeterred, Busch marched forward, regaining the lead in the late going and taking the win.

Busch, the master, led 80 of the 134 laps.

For Busch, he has won five NCWTS races at Charlotte and has notched 31 victories in the series. Overall, Busch has tallied 113 NASCAR wins. His most recent CWS victory took place nine months ago or seven races ago.

The victor drove his own Toyota Care Toyota.

“Our truck was very fast,” the winner said. “My crew worked awfully hard in last couple of weeks. It is fun to race here, even though we didn’t make it look easy. I wish we could have run up front more, as we had our work cut out for us.”

Discussing his dual with Brendan Gaughan at the end, Busch said, “I don’t know how he makes the top (of track) work that way. It is crazy. Every time I go up there I slow down. When I did get up there, it freed up my truck. Yes, I was taking away Brendan’s air, but it was helping my truck turn.”

Gaughan hounded Busch in the closing laps, but couldn’t muster the speed to overhaul the leader. Earlier in the event, he lost a lap but made it up after a period of time.

He finished second in the South Point Chevrolet.

“I was gaining on Kyle Busch, and I am mad that I couldn’t catch him,” he said. “It is good to feel mad about finishing second, but I haven’t been this happy in a long time.”

Regarding his dice with Busch, he added, “He (Busch) took the air off me and killed my momentum. He knows that he’s going to do it, and I do, too, but I wasn’t ready. I will know what not to do in the future.”

In carving out a third-place finish, Max Gresham scored a career-best finish in his 21st NCWTS race.

He drove the AmWINS Chevrolet. “I couldn’t be any happier with this finish. This (finish) is like a win for us,” he noted. “This is justification that we are going in right direction, which is all we can ask for. That last wreck almost got me, though. I had a front-row seat for it.”

Matt Crafton drove superbly to garner fourth place.

Austin Dillon took fifth place.

The second five finishers were James Buescher, early leader Miguel Paludo, John Wes

Townley, Ross Chastain and Justin Lofton.
