SEATTLE, Wash. -- #24 GMAC driver Jack Sprague can etch another record in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series record book this weekend at Evergreen Speedway.
All Sprague has to do is finish fifth or better in Saturday's SEARS 200 (ESPN: 8 p.m. EDT) and the 35-year-old Michigan native will eclipse Ron Hornaday's series record for most consecutive top-five finishes with nine. Other items of note include:
¨ Extending the record top-five streak seems likely for Sprague, who has finished second and first in his last two appearances at the .646-mile Evergreen Speedway.
¨ Sprague now leads Mike Wallace by 56 points in the NCTS standings. The driver of the #24 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolet is the only series competitor to lead the point standings in five seasons, something he's now done on an annual basis since 1996.
¨ Nobody has amassed more points on short tracks this year than Sprague (515). Mike Wallace, currently in second place in the NCTS standings, also has 515 on the short strips this season.
¨ Sprague has led more short track races (20) and laps (926) than any other truck driver.
¨ Along with Rick Carelli, Sprague is the only entrant in this weekend's SEARS 200 to start all of Evergreen's previous five NCTS events.
SPRAGUE'S THOUGHTS HEADING INTO SATURDAY'S EVERGREEN EVENT:
"We've got a little bit of a roll going right now, although I wasn't overly thrilled with finishing fourth at Pikes Peak," Sprague said. "Any time you string together eight top-five finishes, you've got to be happy about that. That's really a credit to this entire GMAC crew -- and I mean that. I'm only as good as the truck they prepare each week."
The two-time and defending NCTS Champion added, "Evergreen's been good to us the past couple of years. If the rain just stays away, we'll be good to go. It makes for a long day and weekend when you're just sitting around waiting to run. Rain or shine, a win would make me feel real good on that trip home from Seattle." <pre> Evergreen Speedway (0.646 miles)
