On Thursday, KBM announced the 16-year-old son of NASCAR veteran Jeff Burton will drive its No. 51 Toyota in six races next season, joining team owner Kyle Busch and Todd Gilliland in the truck’s multi-driver lineup.

Burton’s first race with KBM will be April 1 at Martinsville (Va.), followed the June 2 race at Dover (Del.) International Speedway; June 23 at Iowa; July 19 at Eldora Speedway;  Aug. 16 at Bristol; and Martinsville again on Oct. 28.

Burton made his debut in the Truck series in the fall Martinsville race with KBM, starting 17th and finishing 22nd.

“Harrison did a really nice job in his Truck Series debut at Martinsville this year and we are excited to be able to bring him back for a six-race schedule in 2017,” Busch said. “I think everyone at KBM was really impressed with how he handled himself on and off the track throughout the weekend at Martinsville.

“In the end, he was able to bring the truck back in one piece – which isn't an easy task for a young driver at that track. We look forward to being a part of his continued development next season.”

Burton competed fulltime in 2016 in the K&N Pro Series East, winning a pole and finished seventh in the series standings. He won three Super Late Model victories in 2016 and finished third in his ARCA debut at Iowa.

“I honestly feel like I have hit the jackpot by signing with a championship-caliber team like Kyle Busch Motorsports,” Burton said. “Having raced in Martinsville last season with KBM, I understand the strength of the team and have complete confidence that they can provide me with great race trucks while making my transition into the Truck series as smooth as possible.”

An announcement of the final driver that will share driving duties in the No. 51, as well as an announcement of Burton’s sponsors, will come at a later date.
