Engine failure leaves Portenga 26th at California.

FONTANA, Calif. - Engine failure after 53 laps left Steve Portenga and the Roto-Rooter Chevrolet 26th in the American Racing Wheels 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at the California Speedway Saturday, November 2.

"We changed to this engine after practice on Thursday," Portenga said.  "We thought this one would make all 100 laps today, but we were wrong.

"We're in a tight points battle.  We need to get the engine situation figured out so we can run these last two races without another problem and finish in the top-20."

Portenga is 19th in the series point standings.  He's 32 points from 18th place, but just 51 points ahead of 22nd position.

Two races remain in the 2002 season.  The circuit continues with a November 8 race at the Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway.
