FONTANA, Calif. - Forced to the rear of the starting field due to a race-morning engine change, Matt Crafton moved steadily through the pack and finished 17th in the American Racing Wheels 200 NASCAR Truck Series race at the California Speedway Saturday, November 2.

"We gave up a couple of position in the final laps, and that's pretty frustrating to me," Crafton said.  "I thought we had a chance to get out of here in the top-15, but the last couple of laps hurt us.  We were so tight, we just couldn't hold them off at the end."

Crafton raced through the pack into the top 20 in the first 15 laps around the two-mile oval.  He was 19th when he came to pit lane for the first time during a caution period on lap 22.

Trouble with an adjustment to the Menards/ColorPave Chevrolet cost Crafton dearly during the pit stop.  He returned to the track in 23rd position.  Crafton was lapped during a subsequent 52-lap green flag run.

"If we hadn't had the trouble on the pit stop, we might not have gotten lapped," Crafton said.  "The guys have done such a good job in the pits all season.  I'm not going to complain about this one.  They haven't let us down often this year."

The performance kept Crafton 15th in the series point standings.  Two races remain in the 2002 campaign.  The series continues with a November 8 race in Avondale, Ariz.
