NEWTON, IOWA - Erik Jones managed to improve on his outside pole starting position the only way he could: by winning the American Ethanol 200 at Iowa Speedway.

Jones, 18, led for 131 of the 200 laps of the Camping World Truck Series race on Friday night for his second career win in just nine starts. Jones continued Toyota's 11-race streak alive with Kyle Busch Motorsport's seventh victory of the season.

“It was definitely fun, I had a lot of fun," Jones said. "I’ve been really trying to get a win hard these first three races and felt like we’ve had some misfortune that took us out of contention, just had really fast trucks, everybody’s done a great job at KBM but like i said, just misfortune’s taken us out.

"It was just a great race, we stayed up front pretty much all night, had a great pitstop, got the lead and then kind of got out in clean air and we were able to hold Ryan off there at the end. Definitely a battle with him, he was making me run a lot harder than I wanted to, just so happy to get the win here."

But the victory was not void of controversy. The No. 51 Toyota failed post-race inspection after the rear of his truck was discovered to be too low.

Jones gained the maximum amount of points (48) but the possibility of a potential penalty could alter the final tally.

Ryan Blaney put up a good fight but fell short of Jones by 0.629-seconds. Matt Crafton, Joey Coulter and German Quiroga rounded out the top five.

The race was peppered with controversy after the race on pit road after an on-track altercation between John Wes Townley and Spencer Gallagher. After the race, Gallagher attempted to apologize to Townley for the on-track altercation, but a scuffled ensued after Townley became agitated and shoved Gallagher.

“He doored us in the left rear and subsequently caused the tire to go down, and when that happened I came down pit road and asked if the LR was done because of that and when I found out I went berserk on him," Townley said. "I've never been that mad before, I don’t know what came over me. I guess it was just two strikes and he was out, I was tired of it."

The next race on the Truck Series tour is the Mudsummer Classic at Eldora Speedway.

UPDATE: Erik Jones' race-winnign truck was found to be too low following the race. He will keep the victory, but penalties will be announced Tuesday.
