Ted Musgrave Takes The Pole For Florida Dodge Dealers 250

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2002) - Ted Musgrave, driver of the No. 1 Mopar Performance Dodge, captured the pole during qualifying for the Florida Dodge Dealers 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race on Friday with a speed of 187.215 mph. Ron Hornaday, driver of the No. 24 Wolverine Boots Chevrolet, will start on the front row alongside Musgrave for Friday's race.

"We did a lot of things to free the truck up," said Musgrave. "You definitely wouldn't be able to race it like that. It's a handful now. It was all for a one-lap effort."

The top 10 starting positions belong to Dodge or Chevrolet. The highest finishing Ford in this afternoon's qualifying session at Daytona International Speedway was driven by Jon Wood in the No. 50 US Navy Racing Ford, which will roll off in the 11th spot. Wood consistently turned fast times during January's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series test session at Daytona.

Rookie Bill Lester, driver of the No. 8 Dodge Motorsports Dodge, will start in the 19th position after turning only one lap during qualifying.

In today's NASCAR Winston Cup practice session, the cars of Tony Stewart, Jimmy Spencer, Bobby Hamilton, Ricky Rudd, Jeff Burton and Todd Bodine were involved in an accident on the Superstretch. All drivers walked away unharmed, but Todd Bodine and Bobby Hamilton will have to go to back-up cars for Thursday's Gatorade 125s.

Track action on Wednesday at Daytona International Speedway includes NASCAR Winston Cup practice from noon-12:45 p.m. and 1:45-2:30 p.m. Qualifying for the EAS/GNC Live Well 300 NASCAR Busch Series race gets underway at 2:45 p.m.
