"My teammate, Jason Leffler, took off and he looked pretty good. His truck was pretty quick. He was running hard, and I was running hard. We had to at the beginning because we didn't know what was going to happen. Neither one of us went out to Happy Hour.
Experience is one thing you have to have here. Jason was really fast, but I could see he was burning his tires up a little bit. He was pushing me awful bad. Later in the race I was up front, but I needed to be up front because our truck needed to get the air on it just like everybody else. The truck worked good up front in clean air. I was lapping a truck down the backstretch maybe halfway or three-quarters of the way through the race. He turned up into me and tore the left front fender off the truck.
From that point on, the truck never was as good. It would turn off the corner and it was real tight. It would never get up in the corner and turn back down off the hill. They were starting to gain on me. I couldn't hardly hold them off. The caution came out and we were still in the lead. I told the guys they needed to work on the truck on the left front fender. They did, but there was nothing much they could do because it was all bent in. He got ahead of me out of the pits. The guys got me out of the pits awesomely every time today until then. I got behind Robert, had a big aero push and I thought he was going to have this race because there was nothing I could do with it.
I thought, 'well, my truck's not as good as his so let's make it exciting and try to get him in traffic or something. We did. We came in the corner, three wide and split the trucks. I went high, he went low. I was bouncing off the wall a little bit, and he was half sideways maybe. That's what truck racing at Darlington is all about. I'm excited to be a part of it."
