Can Bobby Hamilton Make it Three for Three at Darlington?
Track's New Look: "Just driving up the road and seeing the lights not even on yet made a huge difference at Darlington. The place looks so much better. I think it is a great thing that NASCAR has done. I've been going to Darlington for years and if the humidity didn't get you, the rain would. So it makes it more comfortable for the race fans to watch and gives us more time to play with in case of rain delays."
Racing Under the Lights: "The lighting company did a great job at Darlington, as they do at all these other race tracks. It was just like running around that track in the day light. It's like we were running on a real cool summer day. Every now and then (when racing under the lights) you will see a flicker or shadow, but once the green flag drops it is just like we are in sunlight. We can't tell the difference. It is cooler all around, for the fans, drivers, crews, media and that makes it better for everyone. The tires will last longer under the lights, so it will be better racing too. To have the opportunity to drive for the first time under the lights around that track with the likes of David Pearson and Cale Yarborough was an honor. We had a lot of fun doing the Night Riders appearance with them earlier this year."
Discipline: "I've always liked this race track because the history of it. It's always going to be a key track on the circuit. The discipline it takes to drive this type track is what I like so much about Darlington Raceway. I think when you get a lot of laps under your belt there it makes you really drive the race track. This race track demands that."
Stay Around: "I think Darlington needs to stay on the circuit. It was around before Daytona, so we need to remember that. One way we can keep it around is if we start seeing good night time shows and the race fans want the tickets and eventually they are sold out. It will make them add grandstands so more people can come around. It would be great to see us keep racing in Darlington. I hate to see it taken off the schedule."
* The truck Hamilton is racing in Darlington is Slim Shady.
* Hamilton won last year on the 1.366-mile egg-shaped oval passing Ted Musgrave with only a few laps left in the race.
* The Tennessee native has entered only two NCTS events in Darlington and won both times.
Save It Until The End: "Darlington plays strongly into the championship race because it is one of the final two races. It's a tough race track and a place that challenges drivers to stay patient and disciplined. Ted Musgrave is really strong there, but our truck has won two of the two events we entered. That usually ends up bighting you the third time. The championship contender that runs well in Darlington will tighten the points race for Homestead, or it will make the other party push harder to still win in Homestead to clinch that title. Cushion or no cushion, I believe the NCTS has the best points race going on out there. Either way we're going to have a close championship race going into Homestead and that will help our series get more race fans."
