Richardson Anticipating First Laps around Lowe's: Robert Richardson along with the rest of the 41-truck entry list is looking forward to their first laps around the Lowe's Motor Speedway since the re-surfacing project took place at the 1.5-mile speedway. With several NASCAR Nextel Cup Series teams testing at the speedway over the past several weeks and speeds topping the 200mph mark, Richardson is cautiously excited about his first laps at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
"There has been a lot of talk about how fast the track has become since they changed the surface," said Richardson. "I think the positive for me is that I don't have experience at Charlotte that needs to be altered in order to adapt to the changes. The primary track that I know to compare to is Texas Motor Speedway and that is a really fast race track as well. In talking to some of the other drivers, they have told me that Charlotte is like Texas in every corner except coming off of turn four. I expect that corner to be a lot narrower and I really want to work on that during the test session."
Richardson will be under the same pressure he endured last season at his home track of Texas Motor Speedway when he was forced to qualify for the race on time. This weekend, the 23-year old McKinney, Texas native will once again be forced to turn a quick qualifying lap in order to give his R3 team a spot in the 36-truck field.
"I hate that we are in the position where I have to qualify in," said Richardson. "But the bad luck at Gateway really put us in this position for Charlotte. The team has built an awesome Silverado for this race and I know the test session will only help us get the truck where we need it to be and get me comfortable with the race track. After being in this position last season at Texas and at Homestead and making it into both of those races, I am confident that we will have a solid showing at Charlotte this weekend."
Richardson is currently 27th in NCTS Championship point's standings, only 24 points away from the 25th position. This weekend's event at the Lowe's Motor Speedway will take the green flag on Friday, May 19 at 8:30pm ET and will be televised live on Speed.
