BILL LESTER (No. 8 Dodge Motorsports Dodge Ram) - Captures First Career Pole
"I'm over the moon right now. We were loose on the first lap, and I was beginning to wonder if we could stick on the second one. I just kept it to the mat. I knew the Bobby Hamilton Racing Team gave me a terrific truck. We were good all through practice, and I was just hoping the rain was going to hold off. I thought all along this was going to be our weekend. This is just the beginning of things to come. I think we're going to have a good truck in the race, and I'm real excited about that. It's like a dream come true.
"Yes and no (when asked if winning the pole surprised him). I always knew I liked the fast tracks. I knew the bullrings were not my forte. I knew once we got here the guys would give me a truck I could drive well. I just like holding it to the mat.
"I'm just looking at the fact that I tried to do the best I could with what the guys provided me. It was great off the truck. I didn't have to do much but turn the wheel. It doesn't get much better than that.
"I can't say enough for the team. We knew we were going to be strong. We were good in practice. We were a little dicey the first lap out there. We came too far for me to go lifting, so I kept my foot on the mat. I can't wait until tomorrow night's race.
"I'm happy. We took this little token of good luck called Joe Boo in the truck. It comes from the movie Major League where one of the batters had a slump. He named this little mascot Joe Boo and everything turned around for him. One of the guys on the crew got Joe Boo and put it in the truck and so far it's worked good for us. Bad things have happened to us, but I think our luck is turning around and we're going to be a force to contend with.
"This track doesn't drive anything like Texas. I don't have any experience on the track, but listening to the veterans they say you can run high or low here. I'm going to stick real close to Bobby Hamilton and learn from the master.
"I knew once we got to the fast tracks we were going to shine. We had a little bad fortune at Daytona. We're all on equal footing here, and I feel real good."
