Raybestos Rookie Candidate Scores Second Consecutive Top-10 in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Competition
Concord, NC - Aric Almirola and the No. 75 Spears Manufacturing Silverado team were fast in practice for the Quaker Steak and Lube 200 at Lowe's Motor Speedway (LMS) and when the green flag dropped, they were fast in the race as well.
Almirola scored his second consecutive top-10 in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series NCTS) competition Friday night with a ninth-place run to the checkered flag. The finish came on the heals of the Tampa, FL native's 10th place run in the previous NCTS event at Gateway International Raceway.
As a result of the great effort, for the second consecutive race, Almirola received the Rookie of the Race award.
Under the direction of veteran crew chief, Dave McCarty, Almirola and the team worked through the uncertainty of the new LMS asphalt surface and the unknown tire compound. While disappointed in his 16th position qualifying effort having been at the top of the leader board during the majority of the practice sessions for event number six of the 2006 25-race NCTS schedule, Almirola wasted no time taking his blue and white No. 75 Silverado to the top-10 and stayed there all night.
"I am really proud of my entire Spears Manufacturing Silverado team for the effort tonight," said Almirola. "We kept trying to make the truck just a little better all night, we could have been better and were in practice, but we just got tighter and tighter. But I am very happy about our ninth place finish, we keep getting better and better each week and that is the goal for this team."
The finish moved the Raybestos Rookie candidate to within two points of 16th in the Series' driver point standings.
