SS Racing and Butch Miller Ink Deal For 2005 and Beyond
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (Thursday 23,2004) - SS Racing owner Ken Smith today announced the signing of driver Butch Miller to a multi-year contract. The 3 time American SPEED Association Champion will run part-time in the ASA series as well in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series in 2005.
Miller's primary responsibility at SS Racing will be mentoring and performing Crew Chief duties for their growing Driver Development Program and alliance with NASCAR powerhouse Hendrick Motorsports. "I enjoy working with up and coming young drivers. If the driver I am working with performs well, part of me goes with them and that is exciting and something that I can be very proud of." Said Butch Miller. " The great part of this deal is that my future still includes racing." Miller added.
Miller and Smith were united back in May of 2002 at a chance encounter. This meeting has blossomed for both parties as Miller has collected 7 wins, 19 top 5's and 32 top 10's in only 42 starts in the ASA Series. Miller's experience and knowledge has also helped build the driver development niche.
"I am proud and excited to have Butch committed to the long-term growth of this organization. Don't let this position fool you. Butch can still drive a race car and we fully expect to show this throughout 2005 in the ASA and Craftsman Truck Series." Stated Ken Smith. "He just finished 2nd at Kentucky in the ASA and 15th in the CTS Series at Richmond when 17 trucks went home. He still has got what it takes to get the job done," added Smith.
"I have been really fortunate with my racing career." Said Butch "I feel my talent has not aged one bit, but I know the rest of my body has. I have come to recognize that the future in racing is teenagers. So, I'm at a point in my career that I can go with the flow and make this transition." Miller said.
Currently SS Racing is making plans for the 2005 and will be making further announcements in the next few weeks as plans develop.
