BRISTOL, Tenn. (August 22, 2005) -- David Reutimann isone of the hottest NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series drivers on the circuit. Reutimann has climbed from 18th to fifth in points over the last 10 races and hopes to continue his championship march with Bristol Motor Speedway next on his agenda. Reutimann's streak blazed when he recorded his first win at Nashville Superspeedway in the most recent event.
"I can't wait to get to Bristol," said Reutimann. "Last week was a whirlwind and I enjoyed every minute of it. I've heard from a lot of people that I haven't heard from in a long time. They just called to say congratulations. My dad's shop has had a flood of phone calls and he wasn't able to get anything done all week. I've called into numerous radio stations, newspapers and done some stuff with TV. It's neat because after you win a race, people want to hear what you've got to say. It's been an incredible week. I'd love to do the same at Bristol because man it's been fun."
With Reutimann's recent success, a win at Bristol is not out of the question. In the last five events, Reutimann has finished in the top-five four times.
"I feel like we've got a good shot at winning everywhere we go," said Reutimann. "I know Bristol's going to be a tough race, but I love the track. Bristol's definitely a crapshoot. I think if we can stay out of harm's way, we'll be really good. I'd be happy with a repeat."
Reutimann's set to best last season's 11th-place finish at the .533-mile oval.
"We'll be able to finish better than we did last year," said Reutimann. "We had a better truck than where we finished. We wore out the right rear tire and ended up getting the truck really loose at the end of the race. We pitted towards the end for four tires. We were able to move forward quickly, but we ran out of time." Overall, Reutimann has registered one win, five top-fives and seven top-10s in 16 starts and pilots the leading Toyota in points.
"Things have went our way for a change," said Reutimann. "After winning at Nashville, I felt like 500 pounds had been lifted off my shoulders. We have been so close so many times. The timing was just right. It's a relief to get the monkey off my back. I'm ready to move on to Bristol and see how we'll do there."
Live race coverage of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Bristol Motor Speedway on August 24th begins at 9 p.m. EDT on SPEED Channel. MRN Radio will broadcast the event.
