Austin Dillon Finishes Fifth at Phoenix
Austin Dillon drove the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet to a fifth-place finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Phoenix International Raceway on Friday night. The 20-year-old RCR driver started second and ran in the top three for the first 30 laps before changing track conditions created a loose-handling condition on his Chevrolet. A lap-41 caution provided the Danny Stockman-led team a chance to bring Dillon down pit road for service; however, a chassis adjustment did not improve the handling of the black No. 3, as the truck became tight in the center of the corners following the pit stop. Restarting the race in the sixth position, Dillon fell back to as far as 10th in the running order until pitting under caution on lap 102 for additional changes that shifted the truck's handling to his liking. He spent the remaining 50 laps of the race working his way back through the field, finishing fifth. He is now sixth in the series point standings heading into Darlington.
AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE: "To finish fifth after falling behind in the middle of the race really shows the strength of Danny [Stockman, crew chief] and all of the guys on this team. We did what we needed to do. I'm proud of the guys."
