NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Ryan Truex awoke at 2 a.m. on May 22 with a sharp pain in the lower right side of his abdomen, sending him to the hospital where an inflamed appendix was discovered, necessitating an emergency appendectomy.

Now just 10 short days after having his belly sliced open, Truex will be strapping into the Joe Gibbs Racing #20 Grime Boss Toyota for 200 challenging laps around the Dover International Speedway in Saturday’s 5-Hour Energy 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race.

"The procedure went extremely well and I'm ready to get back in the No. 20 Grime Boss Toyota this weekend...I'll just be a little lighter," joked Truex, who grew up close to the Monster Mile alongside his brother, NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Martin Truex Jr. “Dover is my home track and I can't wait to get out there in front of all my friends and family.”

The younger Truex will be making his fifth NASCAR Nationwide start of the 2012 season and his third with JGR. He has a strong history at Dover, having captured the K&N East Pro Series championships in both 2009 and 2010. He has two Dover starts with JGR under his belt as well, topped by an eighth-place finish a year ago.

“I have some great memories from Dover of capturing the 2009 and 2010 K&N East championships,” Truex recalled. “If we keep the car out of trouble on Saturday, I know we'll be in contention in the end."
