X-Games and Race Of Champions (ROC) star Travis Pastrana plans to compete in seven NASCAR Nationwide Series events in 2012, beginning with the series event at Richmond International Raceway on April 27. He’ll be behind the wheel of a No. 99 Pastrana199 Racing Toyota. The team has a technical alliance with Michael Waltrip Racing.
Pastrana originally planned to run a partial Nationwide schedule in 2011, beginning with the race at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis last July, but an accident in X-Games competition two days prior to his anticipated Nationwide Series debut ended any chance of Pastrana competing in the series last season.
“I was pretty much unable to do anything for a couple of months, but as soon as they let me, I was back behind the wheel testing and preparing for this upcoming season,” Pastrana said.
I’m ready to get this thing going.
Other Nationwide Series races on Pastrana’s 2012 schedule include May 11 at Darlington Raceway, May 26 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, July 14 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, July 22 at Chicagoland Speedway, July 28 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Sept. 1 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Additional races could be added, pending sponsorship.
“We have seven Nationwide races planned, but if we can secure some additional sponsorship, we’ll run more,” Pastrana said. “If it were up to me, we’d run every race after Richmond. I’m ready to get this thing going.”
Pastrana did get in some NASCAR competitive experience in 2011, prior to his injury, by competing in four races in the K&N Series, including that series’ all-star event, the Toyota All-Star Showdown at Irwindale Speedway. He finished sixth in the All-Star Showdown. Pastrana’s other K&N Series finishes last year were two 22nd-place finishes and a 33rd. He also plans to compete in 11 more K&N Series events in 2012.
