GAFFNEY, S.C. (September 10, 2011) – It was a good night of racing for Mike Wallace and the No. 01 Chevrolet team of JD Motorsports at Richmond International Raceway on Friday.

Things started off with their two practice sessions on Friday morning when Wallace improved to 23rdin the final practice, after posting the 33rd fastest time in the first one. The gain of 10 positions on the speed chart transferred to qualifying when the JD Motorsports Chevrolet crossed under the starter’s stand 24th fastest.

With dusk settling over the .75-mile oval, the fans in the stands were ready for some green-flag action on the popular short track. And, they weren’t disappointed as cars made contact; drivers took out their frustrations with each other and kept everyone’s interest throughout the 250-lap race. Wallace was riding in the mid-20s for the early going and trying to stay on the lead lap.

When that effort became futile, the plan of action was to keep as close to the Lucky Dog position as possible to get back on the lead lap. A combination of good pit stops and hard driving by Wallace paid off when the sixth, and final, caution flag waved on lap 212.

Being in the right spot at the right time put Wallace back on the lead lap for the restart; which took place with 35 laps remaining. From there, it was a chase to the checkers with 18 cars on the lead lap.

When the black and white flags flew on lap 250, Wallace and team raced under them in 15th place. This was a good run for the team and benefitted them in the driver’s standings, as well.

The finished moved Wallace up to 12thplace, from 13th, where he now trails 11th by only 26 markers. With seven races left in the season, the JD Motorsports team and driver will make every effort to get every point they can each week.

This weekend, the NASCAR Nationwide Series heads to Chicagoland Speedway for a Saturday race.

Mike Wallace Quotes: “We had a fairly decent night racing at Richmond. We battled some handling conditions there in the beginning, but once we got that taken care of and found a good pace, things started to come our way. We held our own and started to move up there and it was fun to race like that out there.”

“We knew we had to be smart in how we raced to get in the Lucky Dog position, and it finally paid off with less than 50 laps to go. From there, we just raced as hard as we could to gain as many spots as possible.”

“And, it paid off with a good, solid 15th place finish. I know I say this every week, but this is the proof about this JD Motorsports team that we never stop trying and never give up.”
