Ready for Another Road Course

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (August 8, 2006) -- ACDelco driver Clint Bowyer is ready to turn his road course racing luck around this weekend as he takes to the 2.45-mile road course in Watkins Glen, N.Y., for the running of the Zippo 200 this Saturday. The Emporia, Kan., native has had average results in all three of his attempts at road course racing thus far.

The first time Bowyer ever raced on a road course was last season when he competed at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, Mexico. Although it was his first time road-racing, Bowyer secured the best finish in his brief road course career as he crossed the checkered flag in seventh place.

He then went on to race at Watkins Glen International for the first time in August of 2005. After missing a shift in qualifying which resulted in an engine change, Bowyer finished the race in the 15th spot.

Bowyer hoped to repeat his 2005 top-10 run at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez this season, but fell short of his goal and came home 16th due to three separate on-track incidents. Although he has not been able to score a top-five finish at a road course, Bowyer and the ACDelco Real Car Guys are headed to Watkins Glen International this weekend with one thing on their minds, a win.

Clint Bowyer on Watkins Glen International...

Talk about your last trip to Watkins Glen International.

"That was an eventful weekend. First off, I missed a shift in qualifying and the guys had to put our back-up motor in for the race. Needless to say, that wasn't a very good start for us. But as it turned out, we were actually good in the race. I had to start at the back but we battled our way through the pack and finished 15th. I can't wait to get back there and take another shot at it."

You didn't have the best luck last weekend at Indianapolis Raceway Park. How are you going to move on to this weekend?

"Last weekend was a very frustrating race. We had a really good car that I thought we could win with. Then early in the race, I wrecked and destroyed the car. My guys worked really hard and we were able to get back out and finish the race. It's just disappointing to have such a good chance for the win and then have it taken away so early in the race. All we can do is move onto this weekend and put everything behind us. We have to focus on the race and not think about what happened last week."
