Mooresville, North Carolina (December 10, 2002) - Braun Racing announced today that it will field an entry in the 2003 NASCAR Busch Grand National Series with driver Steadman Marlin. The Braun Racing team will be entering its first year of NASCAR competition as they move over from the ARCA Re/Max Series where they experienced a tremendous amount of success.
The team also announced that Keystone Light will continue its support of Marlin by serving as the Primary Sponsor on the Braun Racing Dodge for 15 races. The schedule with Keystone will begin with the 3rd race of the season at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 1st.
"I am very grateful for this opportunity," stated Marlin. "This is a quality race program that has all of the right ingredients in place. With the support of Keystone and the effort being put into this by the guys at Braun Racing - I look for some positive results during the 2003 season."
Marlin, 22, has 15 career BGN starts to his credit. Steadman, the son of Winston Cup Star - Sterling Marlin, looks to follow in the footsteps of his famous father and grandfather - Coo Coo Marlin. The Columbia, TN native has had mixed results thus far in the Busch Grand National Series but looks forward to competing with this quality program.
"We all look forward to working with Steadman and the Marlin family," said team owner Todd Braun. "Braun Racing has had a good amount of success up to this point in racing and we look to carry that over into the NASCAR arena. To partner with legendary NASCAR participants such as the Marlin's and a company such as Keystone (Coors) makes for a strong package. We would like to make this program a full deal for Steadman and we are all working hard to accomplish that with the additional sponsorship required."
The Keystone Light Dodge will be powered by Ernie Elliott engines and the team will receive technical support from Chip Ganassi Racing.
"The Keystone Light brand is thrilled to be back in the NASCAR BGN Series sponsoring the car driven by Steadman Marlin," said Steve Saunders, Coors Director of Sales Services. "Braun Racing's past success on the track, first class facilities and crew are great additions to our sponsorship programs. All these elements give Steadman a real chance for success on the track. To sponsor Steadman as well as Sterling Marlin is a great privilege for our company. Keystone Light looks forward to a great season with Steadman Marlin, Braun Racing and all of the fans of this exciting series."
Also, Braun Racing has named Kevin Caldwell as Crew Chief for Steadman Marlin and his Keystone Light Dodge. Caldwell brings to the table a vast amount of experience having served as BGN crew chief for drivers such as Mike Wallace, Terry Labonte, Justin Labonte, Andy Santerre and Ricky Craven. "I really look forward to this opportunity and working with this first class organization, Steadman and a great sponsor such as Keystone," stated Caldwell. "We all look forward to some strong runs in the Keystone Light Dodge."
