NASHVILLE --- The 1998 BellSouth Mobility 320 NASCAR Busch Series race was full of excitement for Goulds Pumps driver Mike McLaughlin. The Waterloo, NY native led the final 8 laps to capture the checkered flag. The win is what most fans remember about the weekend, most have forgotten the turmoil that occurred for McLaughlin during practice for the race.

McLaughlin was among the fastest cars during a morning practice session when trouble hit. While making a practice run, McLaughlin exited turn two to find cars scattered everywhere. Instantly the Goulds Pumps car was a total wreck along with many other cars. The team didn't give up though, they quickly pulled out the backup racecar and managed to qualify in the 21st position. After that the rest was history as "Magic Shoes" worked his way to the front to grab his 4th career NASCAR Busch Series win.

"That was one wild weekend of racing," McLaughlin said. "Both of those race cars were awesome, we never gave up and we were rewarded for our efforts."

When asked if he would repeat the entire weekend again?

"We have been in enough accidents already this year, maybe we can skip all the practice excitement and still pick up a win, it would be nice," McLaughlin said.
