HUFFMAN TO DRIVE NO. 88 NAVY CHEVROLET
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (August 16, 2006) -- JR Motorsports announced today that Shane Huffman will take over the helm of the No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS for the remainder of the 2006 NASCAR Busch Series season starting with next Friday's race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The Hickory, N.C., native, 32, has spent the 2006 season competing in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series for JR Motorsports, collecting four wins in the Southern Division's first 10 events and currently ranks second in points. He has also made one Busch Series start for the JR Motorsports team in the No. 83 Chevy at Gateway International Raceway, where he finished 27th.
"Our plan at JR Motorsports has always been to move Shane up to the Busch Series. He's earned this opportunity with several wins in our Pro Cup car this year," said team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. "JR Motorsports and the U.S. Navy are going to give him the chance to show his talents starting at Bristol and from there he'll finish off the season with the Navy team."
"We continue to support team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. and we are extremely excited about Shane accelerating his life with the Navy No. 88," said Senior Chief Jeff Priest, the Navy's Motorsports Program Manager. "We look forward to seeing Shane compete in the U.S. Navy Chevrolet."
While Huffman awaits NASCAR approval to race at tracks larger than 1.5-miles, Robby Gordon will drive the No. 88 Navy Chevrolet at Michigan International Speedway and California Speedway.
