Flying the blue-and-gold colors of brand new sponsor Washington Mutual, P.J. Jones is set to pilot the #43 Washington Mutual Dodge of the Curb Agajanian Performance Group for the third time this season at Saturday night's NASCAR Busch Series Ameriquest 300 at California Speedway.
After piloting the #43 CAPG Dodge to a season-high 13th-place finish on the superspeedway tri-oval at Daytona in July, the veteran driver and his teammates had to endure a tough night at O'Reilly (Indianapolis) Raceway Park for a 39th-place finish the first weekend in August.
Saturday night's 200-lap race around the 2-mile tri-oval here will be Jones' 28th career NBS event and his second at California Speedway. He qualified 13th in the 2000 NBS race here in the #19 Yellow Freight entry but crashed on Lap 27. Jones added a 14th-place finish here in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, driving the Jim Smith-owned entry in 2004.
P.J. JONES QUOTES ON CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY -- "This is definitely going to be a special weekend for me and the team in a lot of respects. First, we have a powerful sponsor on board in Washington Mutual for the first time and we're very motivated to put on a good show for them. It's my home track on the NASCAR circuit, so that always adds an air of excitement with all my family and friends around. It'll be my first time driving with the CAPG team on one of these types of tracks. And it's a track I love, fast, just like Michigan. So I'll be in my comfort zone. The racing is always good at Fontana. It's a wide track with lots of passing opportunities. We have a car with a really good body. If we can get it to squat down, we're going to be quick. More than anything else, we'll be wanting to put up a good finish for Washington Mutual."
