Moise chases another top-10
DOVER, Del. (May 28, 1998) NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division driver Patty Moise has not had it easy at the one-mile Dover Downs International Speedway.
In 13 starts at the "Monster Mile" Moise's top finish is 15th, which came in the fall race of 1991. Dover was the only race the Jacksonville, Fla., native started in the 1997 season and was collected in an accident on the fifth lap.
Moise hopes that 1998 will bring her better luck at the track that can be so hard on your body as well as your car. She is coming off two straight top 20 finishes at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Nazareth Speedway and would like to carry that momentum into this weekend for the MBNA Platinum 200.
"I always look forward to the challenge of Dover," Moise said. "It reminds me a lot of Bristol, where this year I had some early season success. I have also gotten some quality seat time these first few races which I wasn't able to have going into this race last year. I know Ronnie Silver, our crew chief, and the team will work hard to put a competitive car underneath me and I feel confident about scoring another top 20 on Saturday."
Bud Pole Qualifying is another aspect the Rhodes team has been working hard on. The No. 14 Rhodes Furniture Ford qualified a season high seventh in Texas and Moise qualified in the first round at Charlotte. Track position is critical at Dover and Moise hopes her qualifying run will give her an advantage on the starting grid.
"Starting 33rd last year definitely hurt us on track position," Moise said. "A lot of guys jockey for position early in the race and that caused us to get caught up in a wreck. This year I think we can put the Rhodes Furniture qualify a lot higher. Then it will be a matter of patience and persistence for the rest of the day."
The Rhodes Furniture race team can be seen in action in the MBNA Platinum 200 from Dover Downs Saturday May 30 at 1 p.m. (ET) on TNN. Radio listeners can tune into their local MRN affiliate.
