McGill Motorsports is new name for #36 Busch team
Tim Sauter to be driver; Lester Buildings to be sponsor
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Tim Sauter will drive and Lester Buildings will sponsor a newly-named NASCAR Busch Series stock car racing team beginning with the 2006 season.
McGill Motorsports is the new name of DCT Motorsports, the team owned by John and Nancy McGill of Cleveland, Ohio. McGill Motorsports fields the #36 Chevrolet that begins its second full-time season in 2006, following two partial-schedule years.
"Taking another positive step with a veteran driver and a good sponsor made this a good time to better indicate what our team was all about with a name change," said John McGill, who along with his wife are the only owners of a full-time team from Cleveland in the history of NASCAR's top three series.
"Tim Sauter is a proven veteran and teaming him with a winner like (crew chief) Ricky Pearson, gives McGill Motorsports team our most potent combination ever," McGill added. "Having Lester Buildings as our sponsor for the majority of races is a real plus too."
Lester continues its involvement in NASCAR as the primary sponsor of McGill Motorsports for 25 Busch Series events in 2006 and as an associate for the other 10 events. McGill Motorsports is actively seeking sponsors for those remaining races.
Lester Building Systems LLC, with plants in Minnesota, Illinois and Virginia, is one of the largest manufacturers of engineered buildings in the United States. The company's buildings cover a broad range of end uses -- from simple ag storage buildings, hobby shops and equestrian buildings to many types of commercial structures. Over 130,000 Lester buildings have been erected throughout an area ranging from the eastern seaboard to the Rocky Mountains.
Sauter, a Necedah, Wisconsin native, is the son of former NASCAR Cup driver Jim Sauter and brother of NASCAR drivers Johnny and Jay Sauter. Pearson is a champion crew chief in his own right and the son of legendary driver David Pearson as well as the brother of champion driver Larry Pearson. Sauter has 83 career starts in NASCAR's Busch Series and, in his only full season, finished 13th with seven top-10 finishes in 2002. He has also started races in the NASCAR Nextel Cup and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
McGill owns and operates McGill Property Group, a major commercial real estate developer. The team was formed in 2003, running its first race in July of that year. Since then, the team has shown consistent growth and improvement.
