BURNHAM CORPORATION TO SPONSOR WATKINS GLEN BUSCH NORTH RACE
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. -- NASCAR's Busch North Grand National division will get a new date, a longer distance, live television and a new name when the series returns to Watkins Glen International on August 12 for the Burnham 150, joining the festivities for the August 10-13 Bud at the Glen NASCAR Winston Cup weekend.
The Burnham 150 will take the green flag at noon on Saturday, August 12, in a 62-lap, 150-mile event on the Glen's 2.45-mile NASCAR Course. The race will be televised live on ESPN.
Practice and qualifying for the Burnham 150 is set for Thursday and Friday, August 10-11, with final Winston Cup practice and a 100-mile Sports Car Club of America Trans-Am Championship event following the Burnham 150. The Bud at the Glen, a 220.5-mile race, takes the green flag at 1:10 p.m. on Sunday.
"It is with great pleasure to welcome Burnham as a sponsor of our NASCAR Busch North event," said John Saunders, President of Watkins Glen International. "Burnham's reputation for quality and customer service is well known throughout the industry, and will certainly be a good fit for what is one of New York's most prestigious sporting events."
Known as "America's Boiler Company," the Burnham Corporation is one of America's leading manufacturers of residential and commercial hydronic heating equipment. Originating in 1873, the company first began manufacturing boilers in New York state. Today, Burnham is headquartered in Lancaster, Pa.
Currently in its first full season in motorsports, Burnham also sponsors two-time NASCAR Modified champion Mike Stefanik on the full Busch North tour.
"We evaluated motorsports in 1994 with a two-race sponsorship pilot program, and we determined motorsports is where we need to be," said Robert L. Coons, Burnham's Vice President for Marketing. "Sponsoring a race at the historic Watkins Glen circuit is a natural progression of our motorsports involvement. We see our sponsorship as a way of continuing to build our relationships with our distributors and contractors throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. That's where we do business and where NASCAR fans buy boilers."
Tickets are now on sale for the Bud at the Glen weekend and other events at Watkins Glen International, which opens its 1995 schedule with the June 23-25 Busch Grand National/IMSA World Sports Car double-feature.
