Bayne finishes seventh at Phoenix International Raceway

PHOENIX – Roush Fenway Racing’s Trevor Bayne finished seventh in Saturday's rain-shortened NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Phoenix International Raceway. Bayne remains second in the standings, five points behind leader Regan Smith.

“I am a little disappointed to be honest because I think we had a top-five car,” said Bayne. “We battled back on that last green lap run. It is the best handling car I have ever had here as far as balance. We are second in points again among the Nationwide drivers here that we are battling for a championship and we gained a little on the leader.”

Bayne rolled off 10th for the Blue Jeans Go Green 200 and quickly radioed in that he felt his car was tight through the center and loose off. Crew Chief Chad Norris radioed back they would get him taken care of at the first yellow flag.

The team elected to bring Bayne down pit road on lap 84 under green flag conditions. Norris called for four tires, a full load of fuel along with a track bar adjustment. The driver blended back into the field, settling into 13th.

By lap 110 the driver of the No.6 AdvoCare Ford Mustang radioed in the car was still too loose on exit but by this time had worked his way up to the 8th position even with an ill-handling race car.

The yellow flag flew on lap 136 and Norris called Bayne down pit road for their final stop of the day. Once again a track bar adjustment along with four fresh Goodyears and a two cans of fuel was the call.

Bayne spent most of the later laps hovering close to a top-five finish until rain forced NASCAR to wave the red flag on lap 168 ending the teams day in the seventh position.
