Bayne finishes ninth in Fontana, tied for points lead

FONTANA, Calif. – Trevor Bayne and the No.6 AdvoCare team finished ninth in Saturday’s TreatMyClot 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race. Bayne is now tied with Regan Smith for the NASCAR Nationwide Series points lead.

“We ended up ninth and I think we are tied for the point lead but at this point if we can’t run faster on shorts runs we will be in trouble. We gotta be better than this. We’ve had all top-10s this season and I know we can run with those guys for top-fives as a group but we just have to get short run speed. Those guys come back on the long run but we are getting killed on short run speed. We tried something totally different this weekend but it yielded the same results so we have to figure out what we are missing.”

Bayne rolled off 13th for Saturday's TreatMyClot 300, quickly radioing in that his No.6 AdvoCare Mustang was tight through the center and loose on exit of the turns. Bayne fought hard to maintain track position until the team had a chance to visit pit road for adjustments.

The opportunity to pit came on lap 39 when the yellow flag flew for debris. Crew Chief Chad Norris opted for a wedge and track bar adjustment for his young driver.

Shortly after going back to green, Bayne reported the adjustments had, not helped his tight condition and felt like the car was "slipping" up the track, not allowing him to maintain his preferred line.

Bayne was able to remain in the top-10 until the next round of pit stops. Norris called Bayne down pit road on lap 113 under green-flag conditions for adjustments. The pit crew made an air pressure adjustment along with four tires and fuel. Bayne blended back in to the field in the seventh position.

As the laps dwindled, Bayne managed to stay in the top-10, finishing in the ninth position. Bayne has not finished outside of the top-10 in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2014.
