NOTE: Every driver who starts The Winston Select will receive a minimum of $18,000
FIELD: The Winston Select will have a minimum 20-car field, composed of winning drivers and car owners in calender year 1994 through the 1995 SaveMart 300. There is also a special exemption for NASCAR Winston Sup champions still active on the circuit, who did not qualify otherwise. Another special exemption is given to the past five winners of The Winston Select. The winner of the Winston Open is guaranteed a spot in The Winston Select. If there are not enough cars to fill a 20-car field, additional top finishers from the Winston Open will start The Winston Select.
QUALIFIED DRIVERS: Geoff Bodine, Dale Earnhardt, Bill Elliott, Jeff Gordon, Ernie Irvan, Dale Jarrett, Terry Labonte, Sterling Marlin, Mark Martin, Ricky Rudd, Jimmy Spencer, Rusty Wallace, Darrell Waltrip.
QUALIFIED CAR OWNERS: Richard Childress, Joe Gibbs, Rick Hendrick, Junior Johnson (2), Larry McClure, Roger Penske, Jack roush, Robert Yates.
QUALIFYING: Total elapsed time of three laps, which includes a mandatory two-tire pit stop at the end of either the first or second lap. Pole-winning team receives $50,000. Second wins $10,000 and third collects $5,000.
RACE RULES: The Winston Select will run under procedures established by the NASCAR Winston Cup Rule Book. Race will be run in three segments. Throughout the afternoon, fans will vote on whether or not to invert for the second 30-lap segment. During a 10-minute break following the first segment, the final tally will be unveiled and the race will continue as dictated by the fans. Starting order of the final 10-lap segment will be determined by the finishing order of the second 30-lap segment. Only green flag laps count in the final segment. There will be a double-file restart for the final segment.
WINSTON OPEN: All NASCAR Winston Cup competitors are invited to race in the Winston Open. The 50-lap race, which carries a $193,000 purse, will precede The Winston Select. The Winston Open winner will receive $28,000.
