Will NAPA leave MWR due to the shenanigans?

One of the primary long-time sponsors for Michael Waltrip and his NASCAR team apparently is considering withdrawing.

NAPA and Michael Waltrip rocked the world with their combined NAPA commercials which worked well for both the driver and the NAPA. Even when Waltrip formed his own team, the NAPA organization remained loyal.

However the aftermath of the Sprint Cup race in Richmond has NAPA considering taking their sponsorship and leaving Michael Waltrip Racing.

Beyond the NASCAR penalties which leaves Martin Truex, Jr. out of the Chase for the Sprint Cup, the fans reaction has hurt the team, and therefore NAPA.

The blast by NAPA included Twitter, Facebook and other social outlets. Their message to the entire NAPA community was to the point.

“The actions taken by Michael Waltrip’s Racing team this past weekend leading to the penalties assessed by NASCAR, are very concerning. We are disappointed that a partner associated with our organization would make such a significant error in judgment,” they stated.

However they did not leave it as just one statement but they have launched their own review of what took place in Richmond. Clint Bowyer’s spin in the closing laps was done to ensure that Truex Jr. would make the Chase. Of course that did not happen via NASCAR’s investigation and the removal of points.

Now as they prepare for Chicagoland on Sunday - the first race of the Chase - MWR may still pay a higher price if NAPA pulls out.

Per their statement: “The NAPA AUTO PARTS organization is proud of its long-standing NASCAR relationship. We share a passion with our customers for high quality racing and seek to determine the best course of action for our customers, NASCAR fans, and the NAPA organization.”
