Mulitcar Wreck Drops Marlin to 39th-Place Finish in Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (Aug. 13, 2006)-- A mid-race pile up sent Sterling Marlin to a 39th-place finish in Sunday's NEXTEL Cup event at Watkins Glen International.

Marlin was forced to start the AMD at The Glen from the 42nd position after a missed shift during Friday's qualifying lap broke the motor on the No. 14 Ginn Clubs & Resorts Chevrolet. He was making steady progression through the field before a multi-car incident ended the day for the MB2 Motorsports team.

"Pretty disappointing," offered Marlin. "We started behind the eight ball because I missed that shift in qualifying on Friday and broke the motor, but to have your day end because of someone else's mess is frustrating."

On lap 63 of the 90-lap event, several cars made contact in front of Marlin, causing an accordion effect on the 2.45-mile road course.

"It looked like the 17 (Matt Kenseth) and 22 (Dave Blaney) cars may have gotten together," explained Marlin. "I'm pretty sure there was some stuff going on in front of them too, but we're at a narrow place and trouble can break out at any time."

"The 17 checked up and I was right on his bumper and tagged him-- then someone hit me and it was a free for all after that. I really just hate it for everyone on team. These guys have worked real hard this weekend with the engine problem and now this. I just wish we could've gotten a better finish to show for their hard work."
