HOW IMPORTANT ARE BONUS POINTS HEADING INTO THE CHASE? "The bonus points are going to be a pretty big deal. If you start 60, 70, 100 points ahead of the other guys, it will be a great way to start the Chase. Just being ahead will give you some breathing room."
KNOWING THAT YOU HAVE 50 BONUS POINTS SO FAR THIS SEASON HAS TO MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD? "I have a few, but I don't have enough. It also drops because we're back in points, so we need to keep working on where we are in the points and try to gain another few positions. We have to focus on doing all that we can to get more bonus points - that will be pretty big heading into the Chase."
HOW DO YOU LIKE DRIVING AT WATKINS GLEN? "It's a fun track. It's a great place to race. I look forward to racing here every year. We'll see what happens. I think our road course program is much better than what it was last year when we raced here. I feel like we've made some gains on our Budweiser Dodge Charger since (we raced at) Sonoma. I think we'll be good."
DO YOU EVER SEE A SITUATION WHERE THE CUP CARS WILL RACE IN THE RAIN? "I have no idea what NASCAR will do. I haven't asked anyone. I thought it was pretty fun to watch the Nationwide race in the rain, but as far as what they'll do here (if it rains) at Watkins Glen, I have no idea."
IT'S BEEN ABOUT A YEAR SINCE GEORGE GILLETT HAS COME ON BOARD TO THE TEAM. CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE BOOST THAT HE HAS GIVEN YOUR TEAM? "It's been nice. The Gillett family has done a great job doing things to make our teams better. We still have a long ways to go, but we've made some good progress real quickly. I'm looking forward to the future with them."
HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR THIS WEEKEND'S RACE AT THE GLEN?
"Watkins Glen has always been a so-so track for me. We've had decent runs, but don't really have the solid finishes to show for it. We had a good test at road Atlanta a few weeks ago to prepare for this weekend. We're taking the same car we took to Sonoma and I think the car was pretty good out there. We just had some bad luck that day."
YOU MOVED INTO SEVENTH IN THE POINT STANDINGS AFTER POCONO. HOW IMPORTANT WAS THAT FINISH WITH ONLY FIVE RACES REMAINING UNTIL THE CHASE?
"It was really important. The best way for us to make the Chase is to remain consistent with our racecar each and every race. It's a tough battle right now. For us to come out of Pocono and gain two positions in the Chase is a credit to Kenny (Francis) and all the guys that work on this Budweiser Dodge. There's still a lot of racing left, but last weekend was a good day for Gillett Evernham and all the guys that work on our team."
