ELLIOTT SADLER --21-- Motorcraft Taurus (Finished 43rd) -- "We've been running so good here lately until we got to Indy, but these last two weeks in a row have killed us. This has put us way back in the points. We worked so hard to get back in the top 20 and got pretty close to the top 15, but it just wasn't meant to be. I don't know what happened. The clutch started slipping during the early part of the race and it just kept getting worse and worse until it finally went out and tore up the bell housing, the flywheel and everything."
KURT BUSCH --97-- Rubbermaid Taurus (Finished 41st) -- THAT'S TWO WEEKS IN A ROW SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED THAT WASN'T REALLY YOUR FAULT. "Yeah, I feel as though I'm doing my job adequately, but we're gonna have tumbles like this and I guess the strong will prevail." YOU HAD A GOOD CAR. "It was a good car. It was gonna be a top five. I don't know if we had anything for the front runners, but we were stuck behind Michael Waltrip for awhile. The 41 was fast and the 12 was fast, but we were just biding our time. It's unfortunate." IT JUST BLEW UP? "Yeah, it gave no real indication."
DALE JARRETT --88-- UPS Taurus (Finished 37th) -- "We lost the whole transmission. I don't know what happened with third gear early in the race, but we were still managing to do OK. Then later on I guess there were pieces in there rattling around and that created a problem to where we couldn't finish."
MATT KENSETH --17-- DEWALT Power Tools Taurus (Finished 33rd) -- "I thought my car was much better than that. We got in between turns nine and 10 when I was racing the 12 car, but my rear wheels locked up and I just spun out into the sand trap. After that the gears got torn up and I just tried to get the best finish I could out of it."
MARK MARTIN --6-- Viagra Taurus (Finished 10th) -- "It was a great job of hanging in there by the Viagra racing team. We didn't have the best car today, but we kept fighting and we got the top 10 and a chance to move up in the points. I'm proud of the effort today and now we'll move on to Michigan."
RYAN NEWMAN --12-- ALLTEL Taurus (Finished 2nd) -- "The guys did an awesome job. We had awesome pit stops that helped us get out front with the lead group of cars. It was just a great team effort all day. I mean, the guys couldn't have done a better job for me." YOU HAD SOME CLOSE RACING WITH TONY AND ROBBY. "We lost the power steering with about 50 laps to go, so I had my hands full. It just progressively went away and I would say with about 40 laps to go it was totally gone. It was a real handful from there on just to hang on to it. Tony got me there coming into 10. I just had to race him hard, but I was driving through the mirror the rest of the race and tried to hold off what I could."
TODD BODINE --26-- Discover Card Taurus (Finished 8th) -- "We just tried to stay out of trouble. We knew we had a decent car. Donnie made all the right adjustments and that was the key at the end. We had the best car we had all day and I was able to make some passes to get to the top 10. We held our own and that's what we had to do -- finish in the top 10 and not do anything stupid. We had a good points day and a top 10 for us right now is as good as a win." WAS THE KEY STICKING TO YOUR STRATEGY? "Yeah, that was definitely the plan all day -- kind of save the car and wait for the end and it worked out perfect."
RICKY RUDD --28-- Havoline Taurus (Finished 5th) -- "All we had was about a fifth-place car today and that's where we finished, but we weren't that great. My brakes, I couldn't run the car very hard and that was the difference in running a hot and a slow lap. I had to kind of go conservative all day because, for some reason, the brakes just wouldn't stay with me today." WAS IT TOUGH TO PASS? "It was a typical road course race. There's not a lot of room out there." THE HIRED GUNS DID WELL TODAY. "To be honest with you, I didn't think too much about that. We struggled all day to try to run fifth and didn't really pay too much attention to what was going on out front." SO WHAT WAS THE KEY TO RUNNING FIFTH TODAY? "I think just staying on the track all day. We didn't run bad, but we didn't run great. We just sort of ran so-so. We probably had a seventh to fifth place car and we ended up fifth. We would love to come here and talk about a win, but it wasn't meant to be. We saw yesterday in happy hour that we weren't too fast for some reason."
JEFF BURTON --99-- Citgo Taurus (Finished 7th) -- "We had a good car. The worst we were was the last run. We put on that last set of tires and we got real tight. Michael and I got together and I tore the right-front fender completely off the car. That hurt us quite a bit and it wouldn't turn after that. I thought we had a great chance to compete for the win. We drove up through there without any help and got to the front. We restarted in about fifth position, but it just wouldn't turn and a few of 'em got by me. But it was a good run. Nothing broke and I didn't get in the wall and we got a finish that we deserved. That's the first time we've done that in the last three months."
BORIS SAID --67-- Jasper Engines Taurus (Finished 13th) -- "Track position was everything and it was just hard to get up there. Those guys were blocking just like I would. I didn't want to take out any of the regulars, so I raced as hard as I could. I think if we would have started closer to the front, we probably would have finished closer to the front. We only needed two stops and that's what we planned on doing. I was patient the first half of the race and tried to charge at the end, but we kept getting those yellows. It took my car a few laps to come in, but I'm happy with 13th. I was hoping for a top 10 and we got close."
