Waltrip terminates sponsorship deal HARRISBURG, N.C. (March 10, 1998) - Three-time NASCAR Winston Cup Series champion Darrell Waltrip announced Tuesday that Darrell Waltrip Motorsports has -- effective immediately -- terminated its sponsorship agreement with Speedblock, Inc.

A statement from Darrell Waltrip Motorsports stated that the contract with the company, based in Kent, Ohio, was terminated because "Speedblock officials grossly failed to fulfill the terms of the contract in which they agreed to sponsor the No. 17 NASCAR Winston Cup entry driven by Waltrip and fielded by Darrell Waltrip Motorsports."

"This situation has been a tremendous distraction and our on-track performance has suffered as a result," Waltrip said. "Now that we know where we stand we can move forward and begin talking with other companies about sponsoring the team."

Waltrip also said the matter has been turned over to company attorneys for further action.

Team spokesman Keith Waltz said the unsponsored No. 17 Chevrolet, as of the moment, would appear for the March 22 TranSouth Financial 400 at Darlington Raceway in the same paint scheme -- which he said was developed by the team -- minus the sponsorship decals it had formerly carried.

Waltz also said "At this time we have no plans to change our goal of running the full NASCAR Winston Cup schedule." Source: NASCAR Online
