SONOMA, Calif. (February 13, 2001) - The San Francisco Bay Area market boasted the second largest increase in television ratings for this past Sunday's NASCAR Budweiser Shootout on FOX Sports.

Out of the 10 major United States markets, the San Francisco Bay Area ranked second in terms of year-to-year growth. The special NASCAR event featured a 75-lap shootout contested among Winston Cup pole winners from 2000. This is the first year of NASCAR on FOX Sports.

The San Francisco Bay Area market experienced a 71-percent gain over the same event last year (2.9 vs. 1.7). The Fort Worth-Dallas television market saw the biggest gain at 144-percent (4.4 vs. 1.8). In all, seven of the 10 major markets saw increases, including New York and Los Angeles.

The overnight national rating for the Budweiser Shootout was 4.2 with a 10 share. The overnight rating was 17 percent higher than the 2000 race. The overnight ratings represented 49 major markets around the country. The national ratings for the Budweiser Shootout will be available on Thursday. A show's rating indicates the percentage of U.S. homes tuned in to it and a share represents the percentage of television sets tuned in. NASCAR comes to Sears Point Raceway June 21-24 for the Dodge/Save Mart 350. Tickets are available at www.searspoint.com or by calling 800-870-RACE.
