Valvoline and Mark Martin Race for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America

The Valvoline Company and NASCAR superstar Mark Martin are undertakingthe most ambitious cause-related endeavor in the company's 133-year history. "Caring Hands" has a goal of raising $1 million for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America while recruiting 10,000 new volunteer mentor "Bigs" for the organization.

Program Elements *.. Mark Martin has been named an honorary Big Brother and will race for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America throughout the 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup season. *.. For every Winston Cup race Martin wins, Valvoline will make a $5,000 contribution to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. *.. Valvoline will donate $2,500 for every Winston Cup pole Martin secures. *.. Valvoline will contribute $20 for every Winston Cup lap Martin leads throughout the season. *.. Valvoline seeded the program with a $50,000 donation. Company President James J. O'Brien presented a check to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America National Executive Director Tom McKenna during a news conference Feb. 11 at Daytona International Speedway. *.. Valvoline will host track-side fund-raisers at 15 Winston Cup stops this season. At these events, race fans will literally leave their mark on the program by putting their handprints on a large canvas wall. Valvoline will contribute $1 to Big Brother Big Sisters of America on behalf of the fans for every set of handprints. Fans will be encouraged to match the donation.
