Getting Ready for 'Chase'

NEWS, NOTES & NUMBERS: Toyota Camry drivers have combined for eight wins (Kyle Busch -- Las Vegas, Bristol-1, Richmond and Bristol-2; David Reutimann -- Charlotte; Joey Logano -- New Hampshire; Denny Hamlin -- Pocono-2; and Brian Vickers -- Michigan), 29 top-fives and 54 top-10 finishes through 24 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) races this season ... With his Bristol victory, Busch now has the most NSCS wins (16) before the age of 25 ... Heading into the off weekend, Hamlin is fourth in the point standings with two races remaining before the 'Chase' for the Sprint Cup championship playoff begins ... Camry drivers Busch (13th, -34 points from 12th), Vickers (14th, -39 points) and Reutimann (16th, -160 points) are still battling to earn a position among the top-12 drivers in the point standings.

How important is an off-weekend right before the start of the 'Chase? "I'm looking forward to the off-weekend this year because it is a break before the 'Chase.' I think usually it's about a 15 or 16-week stretch from mid-season to the end of the year. I'm glad they added the break right before the 'Chase' starts because it kind of gives us the opportunity to reset and get ready."

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 M&M's Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What do you think of all the drivers trying to get in the 'Chase'? "When you look at it, there might be three guys that run strong one week and then a different three guys that are further up in points that struggle the next. It's not like we were just fighting the 17 (Matt Kenseth) and 16 (Greg Biffle) to get in. There's a gaggle of nine guys that are trying to fight the battle to get in the 'Chase.' It's not a group of guys that you're chasing, you're almost chasing a point total. That point total is 3,160. If you can total 3,160 in points, you'll make it into the 'Chase.'"

BRIAN VICKERS, No. 83 Red Bull Toyota Camry, Red Bull Racing Team

What are your thoughts on making the 'Chase?' "I think our chances are great. I think we're capable of it -- as much or more capable of it than anybody that has an opportunity to make the 'Chase' as of right now. That doesn't mean that we will, but we've still got a lot of hard work ahead of us. There are no guarantees in this sport. The tides can turn in a matter of seconds. You've got to stay focused, work hard and we need to have a little bit of luck on our side, which we've had the past five or six weeks. I hope that continues."
