Tire stem knocks Kevin Harvick out of contention at Dover

Harvick ignites fifth caution in the AAA 400 after left front tires deflates.

DOVER, Del. -- After pitting on Lap 249, Kevin Harvick blew a left front tire and had to return to the pits on Lap 254.

“We have to come this time,” said crew chief Rodney Childers. “We’re blowing it all to hell.”

Harvick had led 223 laps until the tire blew. He returned to pit road for an additional stop before the race went green.

“Something had to cut that tire, don’t you think,” asked Harvick.

“A left front inner valve stem was knocked out of it,” replied Childers. “We’ll be ok…the biggest think is staying on the lead lap.”

Harvick restarted 21st.
