Cox Communications to sponsor racecar driver Tim Sauter in Richmond NASCAR Busch race.
RICHMOND, VA (April 29, 2002) - Cox Communications Northern Virginia announced today it would sponsor NASCAR Busch Series driver Tim Sauter and his No. 19 AP Performance Racing Chevrolet in this weekend's Hardee's 250 at Richmond International Raceway. The Cox logo will be on the hood of the #19 car with the familiar blue, red and green colors. The race will be televised "live" on National Television on the FX Channel, Friday May 3 at 7:30 P.M. Joining Cox in the No.19 car sponsorship will be Toshiba, Speed Channel and CompUSA who will also have their company's logos on the Tim Sauter NASCAR Busch Series race car.
"This is a perfect match for us since NASCAR racing and the communications industry share a need for cutting edge technology," said Tim Sauter. "We're extremely pleased that they've chosen AP Performance Racing to take that message to NASCAR fans at the track in Richmond and at home watching the race on television."
Sauter is coming off a career-best performance - a seventh-place finish -in the most recent NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) event, the Auto Club 250 at California Speedway recently. Sauter's AP Performance Racing team, the 2001 American Speed Association champions, joined the Busch Series this year. After a slow start in the season, the team has climbed to 15th in the NBS season championship standings. The strong run has been highlighted by two Top-10 finishes in the last three NBS events.
"We've made some really great strides in the last few races," said Sauter. "Having a company like Cox Communications come on board for the Richmond race is big boost. Hopefully, their support will keep our momentum going in the right direction and we can come away with another great finish."
To highlight this partnership, Sauter's No. 19 Monte Carlo will sport a special electric blue paint scheme for the nighttime Richmond race. The event is scheduled for May 3, and will begin 7:30 p.m.
"This exciting partnership with NASCAR is a first for us," said Alex Horwitz, director of public affairs for Cox. "We look forward to cheering on Tim Sauter to a first place finish, and will support him every step of the way."
