In a news conference yesterday, Philip Povero talked more about the investigation into the Stewart/Ward tragedy.
The Ontario County Sheriff's department gave an update yesterday on their investigation into Kevin Ward Jr.'s death.
Sheriff Povero was quoted as saying, "At this very moment, there are no facts in hand that would substantiate or support a criminal charge, or indicate criminal intent on the part of any individual.” Video and photos are being studied at this time as they await the autopsy results.
They are trying to pinpoint what exactly caused the No. 14 Sprint Car of Tony Stewart to strike Kevin Ward Jr. Some say he got on the throttle and the rear of the car kicked out. Officials are pursuing the possibility that the dimly lit track, combined with the dark firesuit that Ward was wearing contributed to the tragedy.
Poveri described Stewart as 'visibly shaken' following the incident.
