Earnhardt Unhappy with Texas Configuration

Excerpts taken from report in the Dallas Morning News

Dale Earnhardt is not excited about the potential of running two races a year a Texas. "They spent a lot of money, built beautiful grandstands and everything, but they didn't think about making a great racetrack so they could run great races," Earnhardt said after taking several laps on the 1.5-mile Superspeedway in a loaned Camaro. "With this configuration of a race track, I don't want to run here but once [a year]." As for Earnhardt's wish to race just once a year at TMS, Gossage said: "I would tell Dale if it's not good enough to race twice, it's not good enough to race once. That's a silly statement. I obviously don't agree with him."

Said Earnhardt: "They were worrying too much about running Indy cars when they designed it. Everyone I talked to that's driven it says it's treacherous."

Last week we reported about the hump between turns one and two. Here is the latest. Settling under the pavement between Turns 1 and 2. The section was dug up and patched Saturday and Monday, but Gossage said he is not satisfied with the results. Waltrip found the patches rough.

Texas still has some problems to work out.
