* The Bud Pole Award won last week at Bristol Motor Speedway marked the first career Winston Cup pole for driver Steve Park and the #1 Pennzoil team. It also marked the first Winston Cup pole for Dale Earnhardt, Inc.
* With the combination of Park and crew chief Paul Andrews, look for another strong qualifying effort from the Pennzoil team along with a good finish this coming weekend during the DirecTV 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Last year, Park started the yellow and black Chevrolet in the third position while Andrews guided the #12 car to a pole position in 1998. On the 1.5-mile track, Andrews led Jeremy Mayfield to a top-five finish during the 1999 event competed at Texas Motor Speedway.
* If history repeats itself, the Pennzoil team is excited about the prospect of earning their first win at Texas Motor Speedway in the Chevrolet Monte Carlo that gave them their best Winston Cup finish during the event in Atlanta just a few weeks ago. The #1 Pennzoil car racing this weekend is the same car they raced at Michigan, Indy, Charlotte and Atlanta. In their first points race together, Steve and Paul saw this car run strong at Charlotte during the Coca-Cola 600, leading for 84 laps.
"The confidence level on this Pennzoil team is really high right now and that translates to great runs," said crew chief Paul Andrews. "Steve really likes this car too, it's probably his favorite one in the shop. The car always runs really well."
"We're exciting about going to Texas," said Andrews. "We'll see if we can't keep clawing our way up to the top 10 in points."
"Working on consistency is our main focus right now," said Steve Park, who has three top-10 finishes this season including a fourth in Atlanta. "It seems like every time we get a good run, something happens the next weekend and drops us back down in the points, but I'm proud of what this Pennzoil team has accomplished so far this season and I'm sure Texas will be good for us."
