HOW DOES YOUR BACK FEEL THIS WEEK? "I'm feeling pretty good. I'm about 80-85% right now. It's still a little painful to sit down, but definitly a lot better. Just a lot of pain last week. Probably the hardest thing I ever had to do as far as sports-related. I played five different sports in high school and had injuries, but nothing like I faced last week. I went to a lot of therapy this week, stayed in bed a lot, rested a lot. I just stayed off my back and feet to save all my energy for this weekend. But definitely a lot better than I was in Martinsville."
HOW TOUGH WAS IT TO SEE SOMEONE OTHER THAN YOURSELF IN THE CAR LAST WEEKEND IN MARTINSVILLE? "I've been racing since I was seven years-old and this was the first time I've ever had someone come in and drive my car for me and watch it. I was just in so much pain. That's the reason I was able to go all day Sunday, just saving the laps on Friday and Saturday. If it wasn't for Dennis Setzer, we wouldn't been able to do that. We just tried to bide our time. I was very fortunate because my family doctor actually came up and worked on me all weekend. He made sure I took the right medicine, made sure I was icing it at the right time. He made sure I was loose enough to run the race. It was pretty cool that he came up and did that for me."
HOW MUCH PAIN WERE YOU IN ON MONDAY? "A lot. I had some kind of numbing patches on my back for Sunday just to make sure that I made it through the whole race. But Monday I was very, very sore. I stayed in bed all day just to ice it down pretty much all day. I just worked on the swelling trying to keep it down. Wednesday was really the first day that I actually left the house -- started moving around a little bit -- started exercising --stretching it out. I've never had a S-I joint come out like that. I never had two bulging discs come out like that at the same time. It's just a very painful thing. I'm just glad it's all behind me right now."
WHAT THE PROGNOSIS? "It's OK. I'm getting back to normal. I should be fine. I really don't know what happened. I wish I could pinpoint it and that's what we're worried about right now. We're kind of back-stepping everything that I've been doing the last few months. I've been working out a lot different and a lot more the last six months. I maybe put some stress on my back and stuff like that. I started to swing the golf club a little bit -- the weather's starting to warm up. At the actual time when it popped, I was standing in a parking lot with a bunch of my buddies and I just kind of turned around and something just popped in my back. I couldn't go forward. I couldn't go backward. They pretty much had to pick me up and take me to the doctor's. So we don't know really what happened, but were going to try and be more careful from now on."
