Travis Kvapil, driver of the No. 77 Kodak/Jasper Dodge Charger, has one NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event under his belt at Texas Motor Speedway.
The 2003 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion has one victory at the 1.5-mile facility. He earned that victory as a rookie in the Truck Series on Oct. 5, 2001.
Kvapil on his NCTS Win at Texas Motor Speedway: "I like Texas [Motor Speedway]. The track is challenging and fast, two things a driver loves best. Looking back to my win there, it seems so long ago. I think if anyone had told me I would win a race in my first year in the truck series, I would have called them a liar."
Kvapil on His First Visit to TMS in April: Kvapil's No. 77 Kodak/Jasper Dodge sustained damage in a lap 32 incident when Jeff Green spun. Kvapil tried to dodge the No. 43 but made contact with another competitor, who was braking to avoid the melee as well.
"Man, that race seems so long ago! We struggled with loose handling conditions during practice and when we started the race, the [No. 77 Kodak Dodge] was tight. We never had a chance to tune on it though because I ended up in the garage when I tried to miss Jeff Green's car [when he spun]. There is nothing more the guys could have done, but when a driver finally gets out of the garage and back to racing, as far back as I was, it's not a lot of fun."
Preparation for the Dickies 500: Kvapil and his Shane Wilson-led team tested at TMS on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
"The test didn't go as well as we hoped, but I can say for sure we know what we aren't going to do! The thing about testing is that it does not necessarily have to be good to be productive, if you know what I mean. We tried some things that just would not work on our car. At this point in the season, we have nothing to lose and it was worth a shot."
Trick-or-Treat: "This is the first time in a long time that I actually got to go trick-or-treating with Kelsey and the first time with Carson. I just started thinking about that Sunday night after the Atlanta race on the plane and I got excited. Carson went as Bob the Builder and Kelsey was a pirate. Looking at the pictures, I can't believe how much she has grown. Man, time flies."
