YOU MUST FEEL GOOD ABOUT TODAY.
"Yeah, this is a great day for Ford. I cannot tell you guys how fast that lap is that Elliott Sadler ran. That is unbelievable that they ran that fast. I felt like my lap was extremely good. I have to give those guys some credit and Elliott credit for that lap he ran. It is a good starting spot for us. Other than the pole, I think third is the next best spot because we will have that inside lane. Elliott will probably be very fast on the start. We will get a good pit stall selection. It is good. The best since 2008, so that is nice to be back."
WERE YOU SURPRISED AT ELLIOTT'S LAP?
"Yeah, extremely surprised. My lap felt really, really fast. I thought it was the pole for sure. I waited for Bob to tell me the time and I just couldn't believe that he was that much faster than us. It is just unbelievably fast."
"It is pretty surprising. I talked to a couple of RMP guys this morning. Guys that work on one of the other teams, asking them how things were going. They said they were basically racing for food right now and trying to show that they had a good team full of good guys that can do the job. You see it right there. That is a team and a driver and a group of guys that can do this. I don't know if they are that fast because they have that mentality of racing for food, or what is going on. I think it proves how good they can be. It does make it more of a tragedy that they are having struggles over there because I believe with enough time Roush and RPM could work together to make great things happen."
IT MUST BE WEIGHING ON YOUR MIND THAT YOU HAVE GONE SO LONG WITHOUT WINNING. HOW DO YOU BALANCE NOT DWELLING ON IT BUT ALSO NOT LETTING IT CONSUME YOU?
"I realized in 2006 how tough this sport can be and that expectation doesn't mean anything. What you expect to do doesn't matter, it is all about what you go and do. For me, the way I have dealt with all of our low points in performance and our lack of winning right now is just by going and doing the very best I can and treating every race like there are no expectations. For instance, if we would have won last week we would still have to come here this week and run it the same way we are right now. If we win this race this week then we start our losing streak next week. For me, the best way I deal with it is to just go race to race, work as hard as I can and then forget it once it is over because it doesn't matter."
