What Could Have Been? -- Rain Eliminates Any Chance for the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota in Texas
Fort Worth, TX -- David Reutimann, driver of the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota, had high hopes coming into Texas Motor Speedway - a track that David has performed really well on in his career. This was apparent today in the first practice session as David put down the 9th fastest time out of 51 cars. After each lap in the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota David would praise his team for having the car in great shape and then make a suggestion to make it even better.
"The #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota was really good from the first lap and all I told Frank (Kerr) was to make it a little better in the center. I was really happy and ready to go qualify right then, said David Reutimann.
David had a good reason for wanting to go qualify right after practice, as a bad storm front was headed toward Texas Motor Speedway. Already, Bud Pole qualifying had been moved back to 6:30 due to rain, and the second rain shower caused NASCAR to cancel qualifying all together, instead of just moving it to tomorrow morning. This set the field for Sunday by owner points. Unfortunately, the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota is 45th in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup owner points, meaning that a great chance for a top-ten or better was taken away from David and the rest of the team.
"I kept praying for the rain to hold off and for most of the afternoon it looked as if it would -- then it just all of a sudden became really bad. There is really no easy way to accept this -- the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota was good enough to finish top-ten this weekend and we will never get the chance to prove that, said David of today's circumstances.
